How does the Australian ETA Visa system work ?

Electronic Visa

The ETA Visa is ELECTRONIC. This means that there is no paper or stamp in your passport. The ETA Visa is attached TO your current passport and is NOT-TRANSFERABLE.

Using an ETA Visa is very simple. After it has been issued to you, just go up to the CHECK IN person at the air-port and give them your passport. TELL THEM that you have an Australian Electronic Travel Visa. They will take your passport and check on their computer terminal.

They are able to validate the ETA Visa is attached to your current passport via the Australian Governments eVisa database, they will let you on the plane (or through customs if coming by Ship).

It is really THAT simple.
